FA Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Megeen Mulholland

The Faculty Association is excited to continue the FA Faculty Spotlight initiative, in which we spotlight the good work of our members.

In our second edition of the FA Faculty Spotlight, we’d like to shine a light on Dr. Megeen Mulholland, a professor in the English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language Department.

Megeen often has students who receive a Threads writing award or an English department award. The letters of thanks from her students speak volumes about the gratitude they feel and the influence Megeen has had on their work.

One student writes, “I’m reaching out to express my gratitude for nominating me for the Maureen Hood Award! I am honored to have my effort toward school and spreading kindness recognized. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity and generosity. I am delighted to be regarded as worthy of this award. Thank you so much.”

Another writes, “I am emailing you to thank you for your support and help toward reaching my goals. I have been accepted into Bard for next fall, and one of my poems was selected to be published in Threads. I could not have done it without your unwavering dedication to helping your students grow as creatives and as people. Your recommendation letter was so kind and moving that it made my mother tear up. I cannot thank you enough. You have helped me achieve my dreams and I know that you will do the same for others going forward.”

Megeen is also one of the coordinators for the Campus Poetry Project; she has presented at Faculty Workshop Day, and she is a prolific poet and writer as well. Her work has been published in literary journals and anthologies such as Women Writers, EastWesterly Review, Phoebe, Earth’s Daughters, and The Seattle Review. She has presented her work at Union College, Upstate Artist Guild, Fenimore Art Museum, Sanctuary for Independent Media, Albany Social Justice Center, and the Albany Public Library.

Megeen has two substantial and impressive books of published poetry: Crossing the Divide and Orbit.

You can read a recent short story, “Diana Disrobes,” published in Persimmon Tree.

Megeen works closely with her students and shares her knowledge and ideas in the English department through workshops, like the DEISJ Literature Presentation in Spring 2023, and campus-wide through her activities. She is an inspiration to her students and colleagues.

Thank you Dr. Mary Evans for nominating Dr. Megeen Mulholland.
